The Internet represents a key technological foundation for GI activities in the years to come. The emergence of 'location-based services' and 'g-commerce' operating over TCP/IP and mobile telephony networks are testimony to the promise of this approach. This course aims to provide a solid foundation in these technologies and permit you the opportunity to try developing highly marketable skills. Geographical information is now becoming increasingly more present in our daily life. This poses new challenges to its efficient and timely delivery to potential end users who do not necessarily have the required skills to access or operate a GIS software package. For this reason, the Internet is becoming the preferred medium for real-time delivery of geographical information. As GIS professionals, this course should further your understanding of how to best utilise the web to portray spatial information.
This course is suitable for delegates who possess a basic competence in GIS skills, but who wish to explore the possibilities of using the Internet as a medium for disseminating and transmitting spatial data.
