The objective of this Course is to equip existing auditors of other management systems standards with the knowledge and skills required to perform audits of environmental management systems (EMS) against the national and international standards, statutory requirements and regulations using the principles of ISO 14001:2004.
Upon completion of this Course, delegates will be able to:
a) describe the purpose of an EMS;
b) explain the principles, processes and techniques used for the assessment and management of risk, including the significance of these for EMS auditors;
c) explain the purpose, content and inter-relationship of ISO 14001, the ISO 14000 series guidance standards and the legislative framework relevant to an EMS;
d) undertake the role of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow-up an audit in accordance with ISO 19011 and by interpreting the requirements of ISO 14001.
This course is designed for experienced management system auditors with an understanding of the principles and concepts underlying environmental management and who seek an understanding of the skills required to audit against ISO 14001. It is not intended as an implementer's course, or one that will create an expert in the relevant legislation, or one that will train to an acceptable standard a delegate with no prior knowledge of the standard or of environmental management systems.
