Building a Reliable Pump System

A two day course, with an optional third calculation day, which focuses on the system requirement for a reliable pump installation.

Pumps can handle anything which has fluidity. All pumps are not equal. But the system built around the pump must be appropriate for the process medium and pump selected. Rotodynamic and positive displacement pumps are considered, as well as some of the less conventional pumps. The system design is considered from a logical, clean-sheet approach. Continuous discussion, during sessions, is encouraged and each day closes with a Q & A session.

A laptop computer is required for the third day. Software will be provided.

Objectives and Benefits:

Provide an understanding of what pumps can and cannot do.

Indicate what systems do compared to datasheet information.

Highlight the range of pump types available.

Show how pump type affects pump styles.

Show the impact of the system on pump selection and pump performance.

Facilitate discussion of transient conditions which cannot be avoided.

Show examples of poor pump installations.

Allow attendees to learn from the costly mistakes of others.

Course Programme:

An introduction to pumps and other equipment which arent pumps.

An introduction to fluids.

An overview of pumps and detailed pump capabilities.

Plant arrangement and piping practices.

Good operational practices.

How good efficiency and high reliability can be achieved.

An insight into troubleshooting.

Who Should Attend:

The course is intended for all engineers who are involved in using pumps. Engineers concerned with process design, plant layout, equipment selection, plant operation and plant maintenance.

The course content would be useful to engineers charged with efficiency improvement and cost reduction.

Also the course would be extremely useful to stress engineers who design piping.
